Armed Robbery and Kidnapping: 10 Arrested in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 10 individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery activities. The operation led to the recovery of ₦4,850,000 in cash, firearms, and ammunition.
The arrests were part of intensified security measures implemented by the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who assumed duty on March 17, 2025. These measures align with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to enhance intelligence and operational capabilities across police commands.
One notable case involved the rescue of Muhammad Bello, a 21-year-old kidnapped in Gabasawa Local Government Area. Following his abduction, a ransom of ₦15 million was demanded. Police operatives arrested five suspects connected to this incident, including two women, and recovered ₦4,850,000 from the ransom money.
In another incident, two suspects, Awwal Hassan Ibrahim (29) and Suleiman Umar (24), both from Jos, Plateau State, were apprehended during an attempted robbery in the Badawa Layout area of Kano. An AK-47 rifle loaded with 12 rounds of live ammunition and a red Pontiac Vibe vehicle were recovered from them. The suspects confessed to involvement in multiple armed robbery incidents in Kano and Abuja.
All suspects are currently undergoing investigations at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged in court upon completion of the investigations. The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety and security in Kano State.
