Trump’s Control Over Kennedy Center Sparks Worker Outrage
Tavish Forsyth, who served as the program director at the Kennedy Center’s Opera Institute, was terminated after posting a 35-minute video online in which he appeared nude to protest President Donald Trump’s recent actions concerning the institution. In the video, Forsyth criticized Trump’s takeover of the Kennedy Center and his plans to ban drag performers from its stages, expressing concerns over the removal of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
The Kennedy Center responded by terminating Forsyth’s contract, citing the video’s disturbing nature, especially given his role involved working with minors. Roma Daravi, the institution’s vice president of public relations, stated, “The video was extremely disturbing and does not represent the values of the Kennedy Center.”
This incident occurred amid broader changes at the Kennedy Center, following President Trump’s appointment as chair. Trump has expressed intentions to eliminate what he perceives as “woke” influences and anti-American content, aiming to promote a “Golden Age in Arts and Culture.”
Forsyth’s protest highlights the tensions between the administration’s vision for the arts and the values upheld by some members of the artistic community.
