Labour Party Members Oppose Voice Vote on Emergency

Rivers State Emergency: Labour Party’s Strong Opposition

A recent session in Nigeria’s House of Representatives witnessed significant opposition from Labour Party members regarding the approval of a State of Emergency in Rivers State through a voice vote.

Obi Aguocha, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, challenged the procedure, advocating for a head count to confirm the presence of a two-thirds quorum before proceeding with the vote.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas responded by asserting that the attendance register sufficed to determine quorum, leading to the continuation of the voice vote.
