NYSC Eligibility: Part-time HND Graduates Not Included
The Nigerian Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, announced that only graduates who completed full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) programs are eligible for mobilization into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This decision resolves a longstanding issue concerning the participation of HND graduates in the NYSC scheme.
To facilitate a seamless mobilization process, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has been directed to expedite the collation of data for eligible HND graduates. Polytechnic Rectors have been instructed to upload the necessary graduate data onto the newly created HND admission portal.
The Minister emphasized that this development underscores the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to equity, fairness, and inclusivity in Nigeria’s education system. He urged all eligible full-time HND graduates to take full advantage of this opportunity and proceed with their mobilization without delay.
The NYSC is a mandatory one-year program established by the Nigerian government in 1973 to promote national unity and development among Nigerian youths. Participation is compulsory for all Nigerian graduates below the age of 30, with certain exemptions such as physical disability or age above 30 at the time of graduation.
