Rivers State Sole Administrator Arrives at Govt House

Rivers State Govt House Welcomes New Sole Administrator

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) has officially assumed his role as the sole administrator of Rivers State, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu amid the declaration of a state of emergency. Ibas arrived at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at approximately 11:25 a.m.

Upon his arrival, Ibas was received by top officials and security personnel. Notably, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, a former chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area and an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was present, directing and facilitating the sole administrator’s entry.

In his initial address, Ibas stated that he is currently meeting with the Head of Service, permanent secretaries, and service commanders to receive formal briefings as he begins his leadership duties. He described Port Harcourt as calm and expressed his aim to ensure the state returns to its accustomed stability. He assured that he would address the media on other issues of concern at a later time.

The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all elected lawmakers for an initial period of six months. This decisive action was taken in response to escalating political tensions and recent incidents of pipeline vandalism in the state.

As sole administrator, Ibas is expected to stabilize the political climate and address the pressing issues facing Rivers State during this period of emergency rule.
