Wike’s Ally Anyanwu Confirmed as PDP National Secretary
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), overturning earlier judgments by lower courts that had removed him from the position.
This decision has introduced a new dimension to the ongoing internal conflicts within the PDP, particularly concerning leadership roles. Anyanwu, who is closely associated with Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, expressed gratitude to party members and leaders following the verdict.
The Supreme Court’s ruling effectively nullifies the December 22, 2024, judgment by the Court of Appeal in Enugu, which had previously upheld Anyanwu’s removal. The apex court criticized the lower courts for intervening in what it deemed internal party matters, emphasizing that such issues should be resolved within the party’s framework.
This development has led to confusion within the PDP, as Anyanwu’s reinstatement challenges prior endorsements of other individuals for the National Secretary role. The party is now faced with addressing the implications of this verdict on its internal dynamics and forthcoming political strategies.
