Update: Imo Shooting Incident Claims Life of Teenage Boy
A tragic incident occurred in Owerri, Imo State, where a 16-year-old student named Paul was fatally shot by a landlord while attempting to retrieve a football from the man’s property. The event took place on Monday, as Paul and his classmates were playing football at Urban Secondary School in the World Bank Housing Estate area.
When the ball accidentally entered the landlord’s compound, Paul climbed over the fence to retrieve it, prompting the landlord to shoot him in the waist.
Following the shooting, Paul was rushed to Umuguma Specialist Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries approximately 24 hours later.
The Imo State Police Command has arrested the landlord responsible for the shooting. Police Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye confirmed the arrest and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
Paul had been living with his guardian, Jonathan Odikanwa, for over seven years. Mr. Odikanwa expressed profound grief over the loss, noting that despite hopes for recovery post-surgery, Paul passed away due to complications.
