USAID's Alleged Boko Haram Support: Minister Responds

Minister Tuggar: No Proof of USAID Supporting Boko Haram

Recent allegations have emerged suggesting that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has indirectly funded terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram. These claims were notably raised by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry during a congressional hearing.

In response, the U.S. government has firmly denied these allegations. Richard Mills, the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, stated, “The United States categorically rejects any claims that it funds Boko Haram or any terrorist organization in Nigeria.”

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, addressed the situation by emphasizing that the allegations remain unproven. He noted that Nigeria is taking the claims seriously and is actively investigating them. Tuggar also highlighted ongoing efforts to combat Boko Haram, mentioning the Safe Corridor program in Gombe, which focuses on rehabilitating and reintegrating former militants.

Additionally, the Nigerian Senate has initiated a probe into the allegations to ascertain their validity.

As of now, no concrete evidence has been presented to substantiate the claims that USAID is funding Boko Haram. Both U.S. and Nigerian authorities continue to investigate the matter to ensure transparency and accountability.
