Abuja Kidnapping Crisis: Naval Officer and Others Held for N100m Ransom

​On March 22, 2025, gunmen abducted Lieutenant Cynthia Akor, a Nigerian Navy officer attached to the Defence Headquarters, from her residence in the Mpape area of Abuja. The assailants also kidnapped two other individuals during the incident. The kidnappers have contacted the victims’ families, demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for their release.

In response, joint teams comprising personnel from the Police, Navy, and Defence Headquarters have initiated search and rescue operations to locate and safely recover the abducted individuals. As of now, official statements from the Defence Headquarters and the Federal Capital Territory Police Command are pending.

This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly concerning the safety of military personnel and civilians alike. Similar abductions have been reported in recent times, including the kidnapping of the Afenifere Youth Council President, Eniola Ojajuni, in Abuja on February 17, 2025, with a ransom of ₦100 million demanded for his release. ​
