
Zamfara Grieves: Bandits Target and Kill Nine Local Protection Guards
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, bandits ambushed members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) in Anka Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of at least nine operatives.
The CPG members were returning from a joint operation led by the Nigerian Army, which had targeted bandit hideouts in the Sunke forest, leading to the elimination of several bandits and the recovery of arms.
During their return journey, the CPG operatives were ambushed, leading to the fatalities. Additionally, fourteen other security guards sustained injuries in the attack. Two CPG members and a vigilante are reportedly missing following the incident.
Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and has directed immediate assistance to the injured and the bereaved families.
