Kogi Jailbreak: How Twelve Prisoners Managed to Escape

In the early hours of March 24, 2025, a jailbreak occurred at the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, Nigeria, resulting in the escape of 12 inmates. Unlike previous incidents involving external attacks, this escape was reportedly executed internally, with inmates allegedly fleeing through the facility’s tower without causing structural damage.

The Kogi State government has expressed concerns over a possible internal compromise and has called on the Federal Government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape.

Authorities have confirmed that one of the escapees has been re-arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
