Foreign Military Experts Enhance Counterterrorism Training
The Nigerian Federal Government has engaged elite foreign military experts to train its soldiers in counterterrorism and hostage rescue operations. This initiative was announced by the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, during the launch of a training program for 800 soldiers in Kaduna State. An additional 800 soldiers are scheduled to undergo similar training in the subsequent phase.
Minister Abubakar emphasized that the decision to involve foreign experts is aimed at countering the evolving tactics of terrorist groups. Beyond training, the government plans to equip troops with modern technology and weapons to enhance their capacity to address security threats effectively.
This move reflects Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its counterterrorism capabilities amid persistent security challenges. Historically, Nigeria has collaborated with international partners, such as the Multinational Joint Task Force, to combat terrorist activities in the region.
