Recusal of Justice Egwuatu in Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Case
Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has recused himself from the case filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The recusal, announced during the hearing on March 25, 2025, was prompted by a petition from Senator Akpabio challenging Justice Egwuatu’s objectivity in the matter.
Justice Egwuatu stated that the case file would be returned to the Chief Judge for reassignment to another judge.
This development follows Justice Egwuatu’s earlier interim order on March 4, 2025, which halted the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from proceeding with disciplinary actions against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged misconduct.
Despite this order, the Senate Committee proceeded and imposed a six-month suspension on her.
