Atiku's Accusation: Akpabio's Alleged Abuse of Women

Akpabio’s Controversial Past: Atiku’s Serious Claims

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In a statement released on February 28, 2025, Atiku emphasized the seriousness of the claims and urged both President Bola Tinubu and the Senate to ensure an impartial inquiry.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, alleged that during a visit to Akpabio’s residence in Uyo on December 8, 2023, he made inappropriate advances towards her, even in the presence of her husband. She further claimed that Akpabio insinuated she should “take care of him” to have her motions considered favorably in the Senate.

Atiku highlighted the broader implications of such allegations, stating that sexual harassment in the workplace hinders women’s advancement and, by extension, the nation’s progress. He stressed the importance of upholding integrity within the Senate and creating an environment where female legislators can serve without fear of harassment or intimidation.

The Senate has referred the matter to its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for further investigation.
