Gerard Depardieu to Retire: Denies Sexual Assault Claims
French actor Gérard Depardieu, aged 76, has announced his retirement from cinema, stating, “It’s time for me to stop.” This decision comes amid ongoing legal proceedings in which Depardieu faces charges of sexually assaulting two women during the filming of “Les Volets Verts” (“The Green Shutters”) in Paris in 2021.
Depardieu has denied the allegations, asserting that his physical condition would prevent him from committing such acts. He remarked, “I am too old and fat to assault anyone.” He acknowledged making vulgar comments and grabbing one of the women by the hips but insisted his actions were not sexual in nature.
The trial has become a focal point in France’s #MeToo movement, prompting discussions about accountability and cultural attitudes toward sexual misconduct in the French film industry.
