Ogun Corps Member Dies from Lassa Fever Outbreak

​A 25-year-old female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has died from Lassa fever in Ogun State. The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, confirmed the outbreak, stating that the corps member fell ill in Ondo State and was brought to a secondary health facility in Ijebu North Local Government Area on March 18, 2025, where she passed away the same day.

Lassa fever is a viral hemorrhagic illness that presents with symptoms such as high-grade fever, headache, general body weakness, sore throat, muscle pain, cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, and unexplained bleeding from body openings.

Dr. Coker advised residents to report any suspected cases promptly to the nearest government health facility for immediate medical intervention. She also urged all health facilities in the state, both public and private, to enhance infection prevention and control measures.
