Apology from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to Oby Ezekwesili

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has publicly apologized to former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, following an altercation between Ezekwesili and Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi during a Senate Ethics Committee hearing. The hearing was convened to address Akpoti-Uduaghan’s sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During the session, tensions escalated when Senator Nwaebonyi interrupted Ezekwesili, prompting her to ask him to “compose himself and stop making noise,” and subsequently telling him to “shut up.” This led Nwaebonyi to retort, “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here.”

In response to the incident, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed her regret on social media, stating: “Dr. @obyezeks, Ma’am, I apologise for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership. Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education, and democracy continues to inspire generations. A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you.”

Ezekwesili acknowledged the apology, emphasizing the importance of addressing such issues to prevent future generations from facing similar challenges. She remarked that enduring such insults is a small price to pay in the pursuit of a just society where women and vulnerable individuals are not silenced.
