NAPTIP and DSS Crack Down on Child Trafficking Syndicate

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), has dismantled an interstate child trafficking syndicate, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals.

The operation led to the apprehension of 33-year-old Hasana Jacob, an alternate female truck driver for a prominent cement company based in Obajana, near Lokoja, Kogi State. Jacob, originally from Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State, allegedly used her position to transport abducted children across state lines, evading security checks.

The other arrested suspects include Aisha Suleiman, Murtala Tanimu, Shamsu Tanimu, Adamu Jacob, Abubakar Ahmed, and Ali Muhammed. They were apprehended in Abuja while attempting to sell a three-year-old girl who had been abducted from Damaturu, Yobe State. Investigations revealed that the syndicate specialized in kidnapping children aged one and above, selling them to buyers for as much as ₦600,000 each.

NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, stated that the group’s operations involved a network of recruiters and buyers strategically positioned across various states, facilitating the swift movement and sale of kidnapped children. The suspects are currently in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
