Expressway Sinkhole Incident: Motorcyclist Caught on Camera

On March 25, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Seoul, South Korea, when a massive sinkhole suddenly opened at an intersection in the Myeongil-dong neighborhood, swallowing a motorcyclist and injuring a nearby driver. The sinkhole measured approximately 65 feet wide and 65 feet deep.

Dashcam footage captured the moment the road collapsed just after a white SUV narrowly escaped, while the motorcyclist, identified as 34-year-old Park, was unable to avoid the sudden cave-in. Rescue teams worked for 17 hours under challenging conditions, including waterlogged soil and entangled construction equipment, to recover Park’s body from about 160 feet below the surface.

The cause of the sinkhole is under investigation, with factors such as nearby subway construction and potential infrastructure issues being considered. Local authorities have halted construction in the vicinity and closed three nearby schools as a precaution.
