Wike's Bold Response to Atiku: No Regrets on VP Slot

Wike to Atiku: Expect Another Loss in Future Elections

The political discord between Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has intensified. This follows Atiku’s recent statement expressing “no regrets” over not selecting Wike as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election. In response, Wike, through his media aide Lere Olayinka, asserted that he also harbors no regrets and is committed to thwarting any future presidential ambitions Atiku may pursue.

The rift between the two politicians dates back to the 2022 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries, where Wike was a strong contender for the party’s presidential ticket but was defeated by Atiku. Subsequently, Wike anticipated being chosen as Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate; however, Atiku opted for former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa instead. Atiku explained that this decision was based on the recommendations of a PDP committee, which ranked Okowa as the top choice.

Reacting to Atiku’s remarks, Olayinka emphasized Wike’s determination to ensure Atiku’s continued political defeats. He stated, “Wike also has no regret for ensuring that he failed in the election and will make sure that he fails again and again.”

This ongoing dispute underscores the deep-seated divisions within the PDP and highlights the challenges the party may face in presenting a united front in future elections.
