
Freedom for Abducted Imo Priest: A Hopeful Return
Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu, the parish priest of Holy Family Catholic Church in Izombe, Imo State, has been released after being kidnapped on Sunday, March 23, 2025. He regained his freedom on March 26, 2025.
Fr. Ubaechu was abducted in Ejemekwuru while en route to the annual retreat of priests of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese. During his captivity, the kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for his release.
The Archdiocese expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received during this challenging time, stating, “We thank God for His infinite mercy and for answering our prayers. We appreciate your fraternal solidarity and prayers. To God be the glory.”
