NYSC: Go Home to Parents, Not Boyfriends, Says Coordinator

The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, has advised outgoing female corps members to return to their parents after completing their service year, rather than moving in with their boyfriends.

During the distribution of National Service certificates to the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members in Bauchi, she emphasized, “Ladies, please remember that your boyfriends are not your parents. Do not say that after collecting your certificates, you are heading to your boyfriends’ houses. Go back home to your parents and celebrate with them.”

Mrs. Yakubu also encouraged the corps members to utilize the skills acquired through the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. She urged them to invest their final allowance wisely by learning a trade, highlighting the importance of self-reliance and contributing to their families.

This guidance aligns with previous advisories from NYSC officials. For instance, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, a former NYSC Director-General, advised female corps members to respect their dignity and uphold the core values of the NYSC during their service year.
