Kano Housewife Receives Death Sentence for Child Murder
A Kano State High Court has sentenced Fadila Adamu, a housewife residing in Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, to death by hanging for the kidnapping and murder of an eight-year-old girl. The judgment was delivered by Justice Yusuf Muhammad-Ubale, who stated that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
According to the prosecution led by Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, the tragic events unfolded on July 14, 2019, when Adamu kidnapped the young girl from Tudun Wada Quarters, Kano, and took her to her residence.
She informed her sister that the child was the daughter of a friend who had traveled to Ghana and requested that she care for the girl until the mother’s return. Three days later, on July 17, 2019, Adamu threw the child into a deep well in Tukuntawa Quarters, resulting in the child’s death.
The prosecution presented seven witnesses, along with the defendant’s statements and a medical report confirming the victim’s death. The defense, represented by Zulaihat Tata, called four witnesses, including Adamu, who denied committing the offense. Despite her plea, the court found her guilty of kidnapping and culpable homicide, offenses that contravene Sections 274(b) and 221(a) of the Penal Code.
