Kano’s Durbar Events Banned by Law Enforcement
The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori stated that intelligence reports indicated potential plans by certain groups to disrupt the festivities and create instability. In response, a joint team comprising the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Department of State Security will be deployed to enforce the ban and ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration.
The Durbar festival, a significant cultural event in Kano, features colorful horse parades and marks the celebration of Muslim festivals such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The decision to prohibit this year’s procession follows rising tensions and uncertainties surrounding the event, particularly due to disputes between rival emirs over the throne.
Residents are advised to conduct their Eid prayers at designated praying grounds and adhere to security guidelines, including refraining from horse riding, car racing, and reckless driving during the festivities. The police have assured the public of adequate security measures and have urged citizens to prioritize peace and unity during this period.
