Kenya’s Patrick Matasi Faces Suspension Over Match Fixing
Kenyan national team goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been provisionally suspended for 90 days by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following the emergence of a video allegedly showing him discussing match-fixing arrangements. The suspension, announced on March 28, 2025, is in line with Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations of 2016.
The video in question purportedly captures Matasi in conversation with an unidentified individual about influencing the outcome of matches. In response, the FKF has initiated an official investigation in collaboration with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other relevant authorities. The federation has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and is committed to conducting a fair and transparent inquiry.
While serving his suspension, Matasi is barred from participating in any FKF-sanctioned events or competitions. The FKF has urged individuals with credible information to assist in the investigation, assuring confidentiality for all reports submitted.
Matasi has denied involvement in match-fixing, asserting that he is not the individual featured in the viral videos. The outcome of the ongoing investigation will determine any further actions regarding his status in Kenyan football.
