Money Sharing Dispute Fuels Rivers Crisis, Says Amaechi
Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that the ongoing political conflict between suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike centers on the distribution of state funds. In an interview with DW Africa on March 29, 2025, Amaechi stated, “The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what is the quarrel?”
Amaechi criticized the lack of public demand for transparency from both politicians, questioning why Nigerians have not insisted on understanding the root cause of their dispute. He also condemned President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, labeling it unconstitutional and suggesting it sets a dangerous precedent for the removal of governors.
Furthermore, Amaechi implied that the crisis is linked to political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, alleging that the President aims to intimidate governors who may not support him.
He highlighted the inconsistency of imposing emergency rule in Rivers State due to pipeline vandalism while more severe security challenges persist in other regions without similar measures.
