Rivers Ex-Head of Service Denies Kidnapping Claims
Former Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has publicly refuted claims made by his wife, Florence Nwaeke, that he was kidnapped. In a video released on March 29, 2025, Dr. Nwaeke stated that he is safe in Abuja, where he traveled to voluntarily report himself to security agencies concerning recent developments in Rivers State.
Dr. Nwaeke explained that upon arriving in Abuja from Port Harcourt, he intended to meet with security agencies to discuss troubling events in Rivers State, which led to his resignation as Head of Service earlier in the week. He expressed concern over a trending video featuring his wife, suggesting that she had been misled and provided with a script to read, leading her to believe he had been kidnapped.
In response to his wife’s public plea for assistance, Dr. Nwaeke emphasized that during his tenure as Head of Service, his wife was not involved in his official duties, implying that her recent statements were influenced by external parties. He reassured the public of his safety and reiterated his commitment to addressing the issues in Rivers State through appropriate channels.
This clarification follows an emotional appeal from Mrs. Nwaeke, who had expressed fears for her husband’s safety after being unable to contact him and viewing an online interview she found suspicious. She recounted her unsuccessful attempts to reach him and appealed to Nigerians for assistance.
