Double Life Sentence for Policewoman in Husband’s Murder
Former South African police officer Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu has been sentenced to six life terms for orchestrating the murders of her partner and five family members to claim insurance payouts. The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg delivered the sentence on November 5, 2021, following her conviction on multiple charges, including murder, fraud, and attempted murder.
Between 2012 and 2017, Ndlovu arranged the killings of her cousin, sister, boyfriend, niece, and two nephews. She collected over R1.4 million in insurance payouts from policies she had taken out on their behalf. Her arrest in 2018 prevented further planned murders, including those of her mother and another sister’s family.
In addition to the life sentences for each murder count, Ndlovu received:
- Five years for defeating the ends of justice.
- Ten years for each of four counts of fraud.
- Ten years for each of seven counts of incitement to commit murder.
- Ten years for the attempted murder of her mother.
The court emphasized Ndlovu’s lack of remorse and highlighted the premeditated nature of her crimes, noting that she “monetised the lives of her relatives” and viewed them as commodities.
