Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso Tariff on ECOWAS Goods

ECOWAS Goods Face New Tariffs from Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso

As of March 31, 2025, there is no information indicating that Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso have imposed tariffs on goods from ECOWAS countries. These three nations officially withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in January 2025 and formed the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

Despite their departure, ECOWAS has implemented interim measures to maintain trade and free movement, allowing goods and services from these countries to continue benefiting from the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme (ETLS) without tariffs or restrictions.

While the withdrawal marks a significant shift in regional dynamics, both ECOWAS and the AES countries have expressed commitments to minimize disruptions in trade and movement. Therefore, as of now, no tariffs have been imposed on goods from ECOWAS countries by Mali, Niger, or Burkina Faso.
