Tragic Vehicle Plunge in Umuahia: Officer Killed
On Sunday evening, March 30, 2025, a tragic accident occurred at Ihie Ibeku along the Umuahia-Bende Road in Abia State, involving members of the state’s joint security taskforce, “Operation Crush.” The vehicle carrying the operatives veered off the road and plunged into a deep ditch, resulting in the death of one officer from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and injuries to several others.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle lost control, possibly due to the narrow and challenging topography of the federal highway linking Umuahia to Bende, Ohafia, and Arochukwu. Six operatives were rescued and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia for urgent medical attention. Initially, three security personnel were reported missing; however, one was later found alive.
Governor Alex Otti expressed his condolences to the leadership of the State Joint Security Command and the family of the deceased officer. He assured that the injured personnel would receive the best medical care to facilitate their recovery. The governor also commended “Operation Crush” for their efforts in securing the state against criminals and pledged continued support to sustain their operations.
