Israel Expands Military Operation in Gaza: Key Updates

Israel Orders Gaza Evacuation Amid Military Expansion

On April 2, 2025, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced a significant expansion of Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip, aiming to seize “large areas” of the territory. Katz stated that these areas would be incorporated into Israel’s security zones, with the operation accompanied by large-scale evacuations of the Gazan population from the affected regions.

The offensive has intensified in areas such as Khan Younis and Rafah, resulting in significant casualties. Israeli airstrikes targeted a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) facility in Jabalia, killing at least 15 people, including nine children.

This military escalation follows the breakdown of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in March 2025. The renewed hostilities have led to a humanitarian crisis, with over 50,000 deaths reported in Gaza, primarily among civilians. The United Nations and various humanitarian organizations have expressed deep concern over the situation, highlighting the severe impact on Gaza’s civilian population.

The international community has voiced apprehension regarding Israel’s actions, with calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the provision of humanitarian aid to the affected population. The expansion of military operations and the intended annexation of parts of Gaza have further complicated prospects for peace in the region.
