U.S. Pressure on Greenland: Danish PM's Strong Support

Danish PM Affirms Greenland’s Independence from U.S.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has firmly stated that Greenland will not be taken over by the United States. During her visit to Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, she emphasized Denmark’s commitment to supporting Greenland amidst external pressures.

This visit follows remarks from U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who criticized Denmark for underinvesting in Greenland’s security and suggested that the U.S. could better protect the strategically significant Arctic territory.

Greenland’s incoming Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has also rejected U.S. intentions, asserting Greenland’s autonomy and the right to self-determination. He stated unequivocally that Greenland does not belong to any other nation and that its future will be decided by its own people.

The U.S. interest in Greenland is largely due to its abundant natural resources and strategic location in the Arctic. However, both Denmark and Greenland have expressed strong opposition to any U.S. attempts to assert control over the island.
