Val Kilmer, the versatile actor renowned for his roles in “Top Gun” and “Batman Forever,” has passed away at the age of 65 due to pneumonia. He died on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by family and friends, as confirmed by his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer.

Born on December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, Kilmer began his acting career on stage before transitioning to film. He gained prominence with his portrayal of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the 1986 film “Top Gun,” starring alongside Tom Cruise. In 1991, he delivered a notable performance as Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s “The Doors.” Kilmer took on the iconic role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 1995 film “Batman Forever.”

In 2014, Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer, leading to a tracheostomy that affected his ability to speak. Despite these health challenges, he continued to work in the film industry, reprising his role as Iceman in the 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” where AI technology was used to recreate his voice. ​

Kilmer is survived by his two children, Mercedes and Jack, from his marriage to actress Joanne Whalley. His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues, highlighting his significant impact on the film industry.

In his final Instagram post, shared weeks before his death, Kilmer donned a Batman mask, reflecting on one of his most memorable roles.
