Lucien Aubey Sentenced: £120,000 Fraud Case Uncovered
Lucien Aubey, a former Premier League defender who had a brief loan spell at Portsmouth in 2008, has been sentenced to two years in prison, with 12 months suspended, after being found guilty of fraud by a court in Toulouse, France.
In 2015, Aubey and his co-defendant, Mohamed Dia, convinced a friend, identified only as Sebastien, to invest over £120,000 in establishing a record label, promising a return of £1 million within three years. Sebastien, who had received £170,000 in compensation from a road accident, never saw any returns and reported the fraud to the authorities.
The court also heard that Aubey allegedly threatened Sebastien’s children when he sought repayment. Aubey denied any wrongdoing, stating, “This wasn’t a fraud – I never robbed anyone.”
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Aubey to repay €145,000 and prohibited him from contacting his victim.
Aubey’s football career included playing for clubs such as Toulouse, Lens, Rennes, and Reims, as well as stints in Turkey and Cyprus. He made three Premier League appearances for Portsmouth during the 2007-08 season under manager Harry Redknapp
