Insecurity in Plateau: Beyond Farmer-Herder Clashes

Governor Muftwang: Organized Crime Fuels Plateau Insecurity

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has asserted that the recent surge in violence within the state extends beyond traditional farmer-herder conflicts, attributing it to organized criminal activities orchestrated by malicious elements intent on disrupting peace.

Speaking at the Fashion and Arts Exhibition organized by Tincity Fashion Week in Abuja, Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the objective of these adversaries is to cast the state into a state of mourning and despair. He stated, “The aim of the enemy is to throw the state into gloom and mourning, but we will rise above their intent and not give them what they want.”

He further clarified, “For those who think that the current situation is a farmer-herder issue, let me disabuse your mind from that perception; it is a product of organized crime by malicious elements who do not want peace to reign in the state.”

This perspective follows a series of attacks in Plateau State, notably the incidents on April 2, where gunmen targeted Manguno, Daffo, and Josho communities in Bokkos Local Government Area, resulting in significant loss of life and property. In response, Governor Mutfwang assured residents that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, has implemented measures to prevent future occurrences and is committed to restoring peace and security in the state.
