Otti Confirms Retirement Plans After Eight Years as Governor
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced his intention to retire from active politics after completing his tenure as governor. Speaking at a reception organized in his honor by the Anambra Development Unions Association, Aba branch, Otti dismissed speculations about pursuing a senatorial seat, stating, “When I finish my eight years here, I will retire. I am not going to Abuja.”
He emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for younger leaders, noting, “We are no longer that young. Society is changing, and the young ones are rising. It’s time we give them the opportunity.”
Additionally, Governor Otti addressed the 2011 disengagement of 154 state workers, primarily teachers, from the civil service. He has directed the head of service to urgently review the matter for possible redress, considering re-engagement for those under 65 on a contract basis to address the shortage of teachers in the state.
