Lakurawa Terrorist Group Kills 13 Vigilantes in Kebbi

Tragic Attack: 13 Vigilantes Killed by Lakurawa Group

On Sunday, April 6, 2025, gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group attacked Morai village in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Nigeria. The assailants targeted local vigilantes attempting to prevent cattle rustling, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 vigilante members. Six bodies have been recovered and given Islamic funeral rites, while efforts continue to locate the remaining victims.

The Lakurawa group, active since at least 2018, has been involved in various violent activities across northern Nigeria, including attacks in Kebbi State. Initially formed as a self-defense group, Lakurawa has become increasingly radical, imposing strict religious laws and engaging in violent actions. They are reportedly affiliated with extremist organizations operating in the Sahel region, such as those in Mali and Niger.
