Abure: Supreme Court Confirms My Tenure in Labour Party
Julius Abure, the National Chairman of Nigeria’s Labour Party (LP), has asserted that there is no leadership vacuum within the party, despite recent Supreme Court developments. Addressing party members at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on April 7, 2025, Abure stated:
“There is no vacuum in the leadership of the Labour Party. The Supreme Court judgment did not say the tenure of the current NWC under my leadership has expired.”
This statement comes after the Supreme Court, on April 5, 2025, nullified the judgment that had previously recognized Abure’s leadership. The court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked jurisdiction in the matter, emphasizing that internal party affairs are non-justiciable.
In response to the Supreme Court’s decision, Abure has dismissed the legitimacy of the caretaker committee established following his removal, referring to it as an “illegal body” and “meddlesome interloper.”
