Barrack Obama on Trump’s Media Policies: A Sharp Rebuttal
Former President Barack Obama has publicly criticized actions taken by President Donald Trump regarding media access and treatment.
In a speech at Hamilton College, Obama expressed concern over the Trump administration’s decisions to revoke press credentials from major outlets such as Reuters, the Associated Press, and Bloomberg, replacing them with rotating “new media” positions. He also highlighted the reshuffling of the press briefing room seating and the targeting of law firms linked to political opponents as troubling precedents.
Obama emphasized the potential backlash he would have faced had he undertaken similar actions during his presidency, stating, “Imagine if I had done any of this.”
He pointed out that while he had his disagreements with media outlets like Fox News, he never sought to shut them down or label them as “enemies of the people.” This stands in contrast to Trump’s more aggressive stance toward the press.
