Police Manhunt for Deputy Headmaster Accused of Abuse

Deputy Headmaster Sought in S0d0my Case Involving 35 Pupils

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has initiated a nationwide manhunt for Anywhere Gumbo, the deputy headmaster of Masase High School in Mberengwa, following allegations of sexually assaulting over 35 pupils. Gumbo reportedly fled the school on Friday, April 4, 2025, as authorities arrived to investigate the claims.

According to reports, Gumbo allegedly lured students into his office under false pretenses before committing the assaults. The situation came to light after an anonymous letter from a teacher prompted a joint investigation by the police and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Parents have expressed concerns that the school’s strict reporting policies may have contributed to the prolonged abuse, as students were required to report issues directly to the headmaster, potentially discouraging victims from coming forward. In response, the headmaster, Mr. Albion Masukume, acknowledged the allegations in a letter to parents and assured them that thorough investigations are underway.

The ZRP is actively seeking information on Gumbo’s whereabouts and urges anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
