Labour Party Loss: Enugu Lawmaker Joins PDP
On April 8, 2025, Eze Gabriel Lebechi, the member representing Isi-Uzo Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, announced his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). During the plenary session, Mr. Eze cited “irreconcilable divisions, incessant crises, and factionalism” within the LP at both national and state levels as the primary reasons for his departure.
This move follows a pattern of defections within the Enugu State political landscape. In March 2024, six LP members of the Enugu State Assembly defected to the PDP, also attributing their decision to internal crises within the Labour Party.
The Labour Party has been experiencing internal challenges, leading to shifts in political allegiances among its members. These developments have implications for the party’s representation and influence within the Enugu State House of Assembly.
