UK Woman Welcomes Baby Following Groundbreaking Womb Transplant

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Grace Davidson, 36, became the first woman in the UK to give birth following a womb transplant. Born without a uterus due to Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, Grace received a uterus transplant from her sister, Amy Purdie, in 2023.

After the transplant, Grace underwent fertility treatments and successfully conceived through IVF. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Amy Isabel, on February 27, 2025, at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London. The baby weighed 4 lbs., 8 oz.

This procedure, supported by the charity Womb Transplant UK, offers hope to thousands of women in the UK born without a functioning uterus. Since the first successful womb transplant in Sweden in 2013, approximately 50 babies have been born worldwide following similar procedures.

Grace and her husband, Angus, are considering expanding their family, aiming to have a second child before the transplanted womb is removed, as prolonged use of immunosuppressants poses health risks.
