Presidency Responds to Ndume’s Controversial Statements
Senator Ali Ndume has come under sharp criticism from the Presidency following his allegations of ethnic bias in President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointments. Representing Borno South, Ndume accused the President of breaching the constitutional principle of federal character by favoring certain regions over others in his appointments. He emphasized that equitable distribution of government positions is essential to reflect Nigeria’s diverse ethnic composition.
In response, the Presidency dismissed Ndume’s claims as “hypocritical” and “misleading.” Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, pointed out that two individuals from Ndume’s senatorial district were appointed to top positions at NNPC Limited, including the Chairman. Onanuga questioned how these appointments could align with Ndume’s allegations of tribal favoritism.
Onanuga further criticized Ndume’s approach, suggesting that the Senator is more interested in attracting attention through sensational criticisms than engaging in constructive discourse. He urged Ndume to focus on pressing national issues, such as addressing insecurity, rather than promoting divisive narratives.
