Reuben Abati Critiques Irresponsible Behavior in Tragedy
In a recent discussion on Arise TV, media personality Reuben Abati criticized Mr. Akinbobola Folajimi, whose pregnant wife tragically passed away after allegedly being denied treatment at a Lagos hospital due to an inability to pay a N500,000 deposit. Abati labeled Mr. Folajimi’s actions as “irresponsible,” suggesting that he should have financially prepared for his wife’s childbirth in advance.
He stated, “When you impregnate a woman, you can’t come at nine months and you are saying just treat her, let me go and look for the money.” Abati emphasized that expecting immediate medical care without prior financial planning places undue pressure on healthcare providers.
Mr. Folajimi had shared a video in February showing his wife, Kemi, in a weakened state as he rushed her to another hospital after being allegedly turned away due to the deposit requirement. He pleaded for assistance, stating, “I begged him to start doing whatever is needed to save my wife.” Unfortunately, she passed away before reaching another facility.
The hospital involved has denied these allegations, claiming they never had any record of the deceased in their facility and that she was brought in after losing significant blood. They stated they did not have the necessary facilities to attend to her.
