Gunmen Abduct Final Year Kebbi Varsity Student, Kill Resident
In the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, 2025, gunmen attacked Istijaba Villa, an off-campus hostel of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) in Unguwar Jeji, Kebbi State. The assailants abducted Augustine Madubiya, a final-year Economics student, and tragically killed Malam Siddi Hussaini, a local resident who was tending to his cattle nearby.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. Eyewitnesses reported that five armed men confronted students sleeping outdoors due to the heat, demanding money. When the students claimed they had none, the attackers became violent. Hussaini’s attempt to intervene led to his fatal shooting. Another student, Collaneous Steven, a 200-level Business Administration student, managed to escape.
FUBK’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Zaiyan Umar, visited the scene with the Divisional Police Officer of Kalgo Division and Department of State Services (DSS) officials. He assured students of the university’s commitment to their safety and informed Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris of the incident.
The university expressed gratitude to local community members and called for enhanced support from state government and security agencies to ensure Madubiya’s safe return and prevent future occurrences.
