Former Governor Ada George’s Accusation Against Wike
Former Rivers State Governor Ada George has accused Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of orchestrating the recent political unrest in Rivers State, including the declaration of a state of emergency and the appointment of sole administrators across all 23 local government areas. George, who served as governor from 1992 to 1993 and now chairs the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum, made these allegations during a media briefing.
He claimed that Wike attempted to destabilize Rivers State after failing to impose his political agenda on its leadership. George noted that Wike was in the state shortly before the controversial announcements were made, visiting the military administrator on the evening of March 7, 2025. He described the appointment of sole administrators as unconstitutional, stating that it undermines established legal processes for constituting local government leadership.
The Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum has condemned the state of emergency, labeling it “unfair, unjust, and unconstitutional.” They criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to suspend Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all state lawmakers for six months, arguing that it disproportionately targeted the governor while overlooking Wike’s alleged role in escalating tensions. The forum has called for Wike’s suspension, stating that if Fubara and the lawmakers are facing suspension, it is only fair that Wike faces a similar sanction.
