
LASTMA Warns: Eating and Drinking While Driving Can Lead to Jail
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists, emphasizing that engaging in activities such as eating, drinking, or smoking while driving constitutes an offense under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
Offenders are subject to a ₦20,000 fine for the first violation and ₦30,000 for subsequent offenses. Additionally, violators may face vehicle impoundment and penalties including up to three months of imprisonment or six months of community service.
These measures aim to enhance road safety by discouraging distractions that can lead to accidents. Motorists are urged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to ensure their safety and that of other road users.
