Foreign Nationals on Interpol Watchlist Arrested by FG
The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently intensified efforts to apprehend individuals flagged on INTERPOL’s watchlist, resulting in several significant arrests:
- Arrests at International Airports: In March 2025, two individuals on INTERPOL’s watchlist were apprehended at Nigerian airports. One suspect was detained at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, facilitated by the newly installed e-gates, which have enhanced border surveillance and security.
- Crackdown on Cybercrime: As part of a broader operation targeting cyber threats, Nigerian police arrested 130 individuals, including 113 foreign nationals, for their alleged involvement in cyber-enabled scams such as online casino and investment fraud. These suspects reportedly converted illicit proceeds into digital assets to obscure their activities.
- Previous Apprehensions: In December 2024, security operatives arrested 10 individuals listed on INTERPOL’s watchlist attempting to enter Nigeria.
These actions underscore Nigeria’s commitment to bolstering border security and collaborating with international law enforcement agencies to combat transnational crimes.
