Kanye West’s Reasons for Super Bowl Performance Ban
In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Kanye West, also known as Ye, attributed his exclusion from performing at the Super Bowl halftime show to three specific incidents in his past:
- 2005 Hurricane Katrina Telethon Comment: During a live telethon for Hurricane Katrina relief, West deviated from the script to declare, “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people.”
- 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Interruption: West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, asserting that Beyoncé deserved the award instead. This act initiated a prolonged public feud between West and Swift.
- Support for Donald Trump: West’s public endorsement of former President Donald Trump, notably wearing the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat, sparked significant controversy.
West suggested that these events have led to his being “blocked from the main stage” and prevented from headlining the Super Bowl halftime show.
Additionally, West’s relationship with Taylor Swift has remained contentious. In 2024, reports emerged that Swift had West removed from Super Bowl LVIII after he attempted to position himself near her suite to garner media attention.
West’s recent actions, including airing a controversial Yeezy ad during the Super Bowl and making inflammatory social media posts, have further strained his professional relationships, leading to his talent agency severing ties with him.
