National Assembly Director Shares Kidnapping Ordeal

Heartbreaking Kidnapping Story from National Assembly Chief

Michael Akinropo Adesiyan, a Deputy Director at the National Assembly Commission, endured a harrowing 72-day captivity after being abducted from his residence in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja, on January 26, 2025. Tragically, during this ordeal, his wife, Esther, was killed in his presence by the kidnappers.

The assailants also abducted their son and two others during the attack. Esther’s body was later discovered near the Itagbajii community in Niger State on January 27.

Adesiyan was among 60 kidnapped victims rescued on April 7 by a coordinated operation involving the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division and various security and intelligence agencies across Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory. The rescued individuals were formally received in Abuja by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar.

Reflecting on his captivity, Adesiyan revealed that he was chained for 32 days and witnessed his wife’s murder, an act intended to coerce him into compliance. He described the kidnappers, primarily aged between 17 and 21, as illiterate and victims of circumstance.

He advocated for non-combative approaches to address banditry, suggesting that the government should focus on arresting, educating, and rehabilitating these individuals, as some expressed interest in learning trades and becoming productive members of society.
